Privacy Policy

Author Studio is operated by Suon Studio LLC, a New Jersey limited liability company (“we”). We take your privacy seriously. This policy describes what we collect, why, and what we do with it. We try to keep it short and human.

1. What we collect

Account data: email address, display name, password hash.
Your manuscript: chapters, scenes, characters, notes, comments you write.
AI usage logs: mode (draft, proofread, etc.), word counts, timestamps. We do NOT store the full text of every AI request.
Billing data: handled by Stripe. We store the Stripe customer ID, subscription ID, and current plan — never your card number.
Operational logs: IP address and user agent for security and debugging; rotated after 30 days.

2. How we use it

To provide the Service — store your work, sync across devices, render the editor.
To meter AI usage against your plan.
To process payments through Stripe.
To send transactional email (receipts, password resets, plan changes).
To debug, secure, and improve the Service.

We will never sell your data, advertise to you, or train AI models on your manuscript.

3. AI providers

When you use an AI feature, the text you submit is sent to a third-party AI provider (currently OpenAI; the provider is configurable and may change). Per our agreement with that provider, your submissions are not used to train their models. You can avoid AI processing by simply not using the AI features — every word in the manuscript is yours to write directly.

4. Service providers

Supabase — database, authentication, storage.
Stripe — payment processing.
Vercel (or our chosen host) — application hosting.
OpenAI (or our chosen AI provider) — AI generation.

Each is contractually bound to handle your data securely.

5. Analytics & cookies

We use only strictly necessary first-party cookies for authentication (Supabase session) and billing. On your first visit you will see a banner notifying you of this; your preference is stored locally so we don’t bother you on every page load. We do not run third-party advertising trackers. If we later add privacy-respecting product analytics (e.g. Plausible) we will update this section and require a fresh consent before any such cookies are set.

6. Your rights

Depending on where you live (e.g. EU/UK GDPR, California CCPA/CPRA), you may have the right to:

Access & portability — go to Settings → Your data and click “Download my data” to receive a complete JSON bundle of every manuscript, character, comment, and usage log we hold on you. No support ticket required.
Correction — most account data is editable directly in Settings or the editor.
Per-book export — open any project and use the Export menu for EPUB, PDF, MOBI or DOCX.
Deletion — Settings → Danger Zone runs an immediate hard delete: we cancel your subscription, purge your covers, and cascade-delete every row tied to your account. You can also email us if you prefer.
Objection / restriction — contact us and we’ll honour applicable rights.

7. Retention

We keep your manuscript as long as your account is active. When you delete your account through Settings, your manuscript data is purged immediately. Billing records may be retained for up to 7 years where required by tax law, with personal identifiers minimised.

8. Security

We use TLS in transit, encryption at rest, and row-level security in our database so that only you (and people you explicitly invite) can read your work. No system is perfect — back up your manuscript regularly using the Export buttons.

9. Children

The Service is not directed at children under 16. If you believe a child has created an account, please contact us so we can delete it.
